Rally against cuts in science

From cienciasintijeras Facebook group which has over 12,000 members, both scientists and non scientists, we are promoting the holding of a rally by science.

day consists of a protest based on the public debate about the status of English scientific development. To this end we invite speakers from both standing as anyone who has something to say about it. Be held in a public place in Madrid and will be complemented with scientific dissemination workshops for all ages. The call comes after the civil society response to budget cuts in R & D by 2010.

We believe this decision sets a bad precedent at a time crisis of the production model that will bring serious implications for the scientific development of the country in the coming years when the state has to reduce the massive deficit spending not just attributable to the scientist. Although the public response against a cut in R & D, the budget counterparts have agreed in secret by the leadership of the PSOE, PNV and CC. This political dynamic has been established for several years and is seriously undermining the claims of civil society and especially scientific research, subject to the vagaries of the interests of the parties in power. To change this dynamic citizenship must move now on the street to get a solution state stability conducive to development. so our vision is to organize a large crowd scene, well coordinated, where civil society can recover the political agora speaking freely.
